New Delhi: The electric current of change is sparking across Indian roads—and it’s not just static noise. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released the June 2025 electric vehicle (EV) retail data, and the results show that India’s clean mobility revolution has firmly taken off, with each segment buzzing with growth.
FADA President C S Vigneshwar charged up the conversation with optimism, stating:
“Electric mobility is gathering unprecedented momentum across all segments, underpinned by the PM eDrive Scheme’s mandate to make electric vehicles more accessible and affordable. In June 2025, electric 2W commanded 7.3% of the market—up from 5.8% a year ago—demonstrating growing consumer confidence in EV technology. Electric 3W now account for over 60% of all 3W sales, cementing their role in last-mile connectivity, while PV EV penetration rose to 4.4% and electric CV doubled to 1.56% YoY.”
He added that the future is not just electric—it’s “cleaner, smarter, and self-reliant,” powered by a fast-expanding network of chargers and proudly homegrown innovation.
Who Plugged in the Hardest? The EV Segment Leaders of June 2025:
🔌 Electric Passenger Vehicles (4-Wheelers):
- Tata Motors continued to reign supreme like a silent yet swift emperor, clocking in 4,708 electric cars.
- JSW MG Motor came in hot with 3,972 sales—British soul, Indian hustle.
- Mahindra secured third with 3,029, proving that even Thars have their EV avatars in the making.
🛺 Electric 3-Wheelers:
- Mahindra Group steered ahead with 7,316 units—because the ‘jeevan ka safar’ is best done emission-free.
- Bajaj Auto zipped into second with 6,478, reminding everyone that the auto-rickshaw of old now has a lithium heart.
- YC Electric kept pace with 3,303, carrying both cargo and carbon-consciousness.
🚛 Electric Commercial Vehicles:
- Tata Motors once again led the charge with 309 heavy-duty haulers.
- Mahindra followed with 171, making sure the delivery van delivers cleaner air too.
- Switch Mobility clinched bronze with 159 units—a silent shift in logistics, quite literally.
A Battery-Powered Boom on the Horizon
With rising fuel prices and falling battery costs, India is no longer asking “Why EV?”—it’s now asking “How soon can I get one?” As FADA’s data shows, India’s EV adoption curve isn’t just climbing; it’s accelerating—on regenerative braking.
So buckle up, plug in, and let the electric dreams roll. Because in 2025, “kitna deti hai?” might just refer to kilometres per charge.
