Star Performer: Toyota Innova HyCross Turns Crash Test into a Cakewalk with Bharat NCAP 5-Star Rating!

India’s favourite people mover just added a shiny new star—or five, to be exact—to its already impressive résumé. Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s Innova HyCross has officially passed the Bharat NCAP crash test with flying colours, earning a full 5-star safety rating for both Adult and Child Occupant Protection. That’s right, the same car trusted for school runs, shaadi road trips, and midnight ice-cream drives is now also India’s newest safety overachiever.

At a ceremony in New Delhi that was equal parts formal and fantastic, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari handed over the golden (well, paper) certificate to Toyota’s top guns — Vikram Gulati and Sudeep Dalvi — who accepted it with the grace of kids receiving a surprise report card that says “Top of the Class.”

So what makes the Innova HyCross such a safety superstar? For starters, it’s built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform — think of it as the Iron Man suit of car platforms. Then there’s Toyota Safety Sense (TSS), the brand’s digital guardian angel that includes a Pre-Collision System, Lane Trace Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and more acronyms than a government tender.

But wait, there’s more:

  • 6 airbags across all variants
  • Vehicle Stability Control, ABS, EBD, TPMS, ISOFIX, TRC, HAC (basically the whole Scrabble board of safety)
  • All-wheel disc brakes and parking sensors front and rear—because your bumper deserves respect too

Varinder Wadhwa, VP of Sales, Service and Used Cars, summed it up best: “At Toyota, safety isn’t an optional feature, it’s our love language.” Okay, he didn’t say that exactly, but he did say something about how safety is integral to Toyota’s philosophy, and we paraphrased it with heart.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of another milestone: the HyCross recently crossed 1.35 lakh units sold in India since its launch in 2022. That’s 1.35 lakh families, office teams, and road trip warriors now riding in comfort, style, and now, NCAP-certified confidence.

With this Bharat NCAP rating, Toyota isn’t just ticking boxes—it’s raising the bar for Indian automakers, making sure safety gets the spotlight it deserves.

So next time you see an Innova HyCross gliding by, just know: that isn’t just a family car—it’s a moving fortress with a 5-star rating and a big heart.

And remember: buckle up. Because even if your car is a HyCross, the roads are still full of “Hi Stress.”
